About the Student Managed Investment Fund at University of North Carolina Charlotte

The Fund is an innovative experiential learning program that is comprised of business students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Weekly meetings consist of updates on all major world economies, evaluations of both current and potential holdings, and periodic sector analyses.  Students are appointed to execute all administrative aspects of portfolio management, such as formulation of accounting and performance reports, maintenance of a web site, organization of resources, and correspondence with local business professionals. Students also play an integral role in interviewing, evaluating, and recommending future portfolio managers. Finally, Fund portfolio managers organize an annual report to be presented to the trustee of the University Endowment Fund at their annual meeting.

Implemented in 1997, the goal of the Student Managed Investment Fund is to provide an interactive, real-time application of standard concepts in finance and investments through equity analysis, portfolio management, and group decision making.
